ueberschall VCP 120 & BPM 120 previewed at NAMM

20th January 2004

At NAMM Ueberschall presented two new virtual instruments from the ULP-Series (Ueberschall Loop Player) - VCP 120 - Vintage Chord Progressions and BPM 120 - Beat & Percussion Module. Both are expected to be shipping in March for $199.95 USD each.

VCP 120 - Vintage Chord Progressions

This indispensable studio tool combines a complete 3 CD ROM library of live-recorded chord progressions with an innovative audio engine.

The basis of this instrument are the typical chord progressions which are heard over and over in countless Chart Hits from the Club, Pop and Dance styles. The complexity runs from simple 2 chord connections up to more complex chord changes. Authenticity, Human Feeling, Vintage Sound and, not least, "Groove" are the key words of this collection. All chord progressions were played by professional studio musicians on real vintage instruments. No quantization, no virtual instruments -- everything real and funky!

Each chord progression is presented in several rhythmic variations. Stylistically the range covers from House, Disco, Soul&Funk, Pop&Rock to Latin, Jazz and "Intro" types of playing.

Thanks to the innovative ULP engine, more chord progressions and rhythmic variations can be quickly and easily generated:

All chord progressions were recorded at the basic tempo of 120 BPM. With the fantastic sounding MPEX2 algorithms from Prosoniq (Timefactory) the samples can be adjusted ± 30 BPM (90-150 BPM) at the highest quality. To remain true to the typical methods of playing the different instruments, all chord progressions were recorded in the keys C/a minor and G/e minor. The pitch can be adapted at the highest quality without changing tempo to ± 12 semitones, thanks to MPEX2. At all conversions the sounds remain crystal clear and have none of the usual grain artifacts.

The circular waveform presentation (Loopeye) sensibly visualizes the transition from loop start and end. In combination with the slidable start and end markers on the outer ring, new rhythmic variations can be created in just seconds. Even a segmentation of single chords is possible which can then be combined providing unlimited variations.

BPM 120 - Beat & Percussion Module

The BPM 120 is a virtual instrument which combines a 3 CD-ROM Drum & Percussion Loop Library with an innovative audio engine.

The Library covers a large stylistic spectrum of authentic drum and percussion loops from House, Disco, Pop&Rock, Soul&Funk, Beat, Big Beat, 2 Step to Electro, Metal, Real Drums, Vinyl Loops, even including Latin, African and World percussion.

The acoustic and electronic drum and percussion loops were played live or programmed, depending on the style, by real studio musicians.

Quick creation of variations and high levels of adaptability and combination of these loops are made possible, simply and at high quality, thanks to the innovative ULP engine:

The circular waveform presentation (Loopeye) sensibly visualizes the transition from loop start and end. In combination with the slidable start and end markers on the outer ring, new variations can be created in just seconds. The loops no longer have fixed start and end points. Combining single segments from different drum loops create innumerable variations.

All loops are presented in the basic tempo of 120 BPM. Thanks to the fantastic sounding MPEX2 algorithms from Prosoniq (Timefactory), the loops can be adapted to your own songs. The sounds remain crystal clear and don't possess any of the usual grain artifacts. Tempo changes are possible in the range of ± 30 BPM (90-150 BPM) at the highest quality.

The sounds can be optimally matched in frequency through the filter section, directly integrated in the Plugin (up to 72 dB filter).

To ensure the greatest flexibility, the hi hat/cymbal and bass drum/snare/toms loop versions are also presented separately. By combining the different loops countless variants can be created.

As Bonus Material, BPM 120 contains complete single drum samples which were used in the drum and percussion loops. With them the existing loops can be further varied.
