The MIDI Association announces NAMM 2024 Schedule

The MIDI Association has announced its expanded presence at NAMM 2024 with a notably larger booth in Hall A, Booth 10302. This new 30' by 30' space includes a 10' by 30' section showcasing MIDI 2.0 products, a MIDI Showcase stage for presentations and performances, and areas dedicated to MIDI In Music Education, Music Accessibility Standard, and Interactive Audio Special Interest Groups. A significant portion of the booth, 75%, is allocated for audience seating, featuring 50 seats with wireless headphones for an immersive listening experience.

In addition to the main booth, The MIDI Association also operates a smaller 10' by 10' booth, number 10604. This space is a collaboration between Intuitive Instruments, winner of the Commercial Hardware category in the 2023 MIDI Innovation Awards, and other award winners including Audio Modeling with Camelot Pro, Hitar with its augmented guitar, Netz, an immersive mixed reality musical instrument, and Sound Sculpture, an interactive instrument made of 25 location-aware cubes.

Further enriching the MIDI Association's presence is Studio 108, a designated area for private meetings during the show. Jennifer Amaya, Associate Professor of Music at the Riverside City College Coil School for the Arts and member of The MIDI In Music Education Special Interest Group, is lending her expertise again this year. Additionally, 70 students will assist with various booth operations, including managing the Yamaha TF3 digital mixer.

The booth will host over 20 presentations and performances, underscoring the creative potential of MIDI in music and art. These events include daily summaries via YouTube and culminate with solo performances from artists who participated in the MIDI@40 celebration at the April 2023 NAMM show.

Highlighted presentations include:

• Intuitive Instruments showcasing their expressive MPE controller, Exquis.
• Discussions on the new MPE Profile, MIDI In Music Education, and the Robkoo R1 Wind Synthesizer.
• Audio Modeling presenting Camelot Pro and SWAM, winners in the Commercial software category of the MIDI Innovation Awards.
• Microsoft and Apple discussing their respective new MIDI Drivers and APIs.
• Members of the Network Transport WG, Amenote, Microsoft, Native Instruments, Yamaha, and others discussing open source code and music accessibility.
• Special performances by artists like Delaurentis, Ellis Hall, Jordan Rudess and others.

The event schedule spans from January 25th to 28th, with each day featuring a rich lineup of presentations, panel discussions, and performances, highlighting the diverse applications of MIDI technology in various aspects of music and audio production.
