Muse Research announces Receptor Upgrade Program and Special Receptor Configuration

9th October 2006

Muse Research, the owner of KVR Audio, has announced that they are offering an upgrade program to their installed base to allow Receptor owners to stay current with recent improvements in the Receptor hardware platform. Muse Research has also announced that they are offering a special configuration of Receptor designed for top-end studios and performing musicians who demand the very best.

Special Receptor Configuration for Pro Users
The new configuration comes with 2GB of matched high-performance RAM, a 750GB, 7200RPM drive, and the ML-44 Turion AMD 64 processor, resulting in significantly performance improvements over a stock Receptor (more info below). This new "turbo-charged" configuration is available by special order unit and has a retail list price of $2899.

Receptor Upgrade Program
All current Rev A and Rev B Receptor owners are eligible to upgrade their units to the very latest hardware from Muse Research for a flat fee of $499 including shipping one way (Continental U.S. only. Elsewhere you will be charged the actual shipping cost.). The upgrade consists of replacing the old motherboard and processor subsystem with a new 64-bit design, upgrading the processor to the new Turion 64 processor used in the Rev C hardware design, as well as replacing the power supply, cooling solution, and system fans with the latest technology. Muse Research will also transfer the drive and RAM from the customer's old unit to the new one. The result is a Receptor that is cooler, quieter, and about 20% faster than the previous generation.

The new Rev C hardware in Receptor, which has been shipping for the last four months, provides customers with a new Turion AMD 64 processor with HyperTransport, a faster 400Mhz RAM bus, and a 1-GHz system bus, resulting in up to a 20% improvement in performance. Additionally, the new processor features AMD's PowerNow power management technology, reducing power consumption, therefore allowing the system to run cooler and quieter than the previous Receptor versions of hardware.

In addition to a general improvement in performance, the new Receptor hardware design allows customers to upgrade their units even further. The Rev C hardware configuration can be upgraded with 2GB of matched-pair, low CAS RAM, a 750GB 7200RPM 16MB cache hard drive, and the processor can be upgraded to the ML-44 processor from AMD for maximum performance (as in the special Receptor Configuration for Pro Users).

Upgrades typically take a week to perform, and all that is required is that the customer submits a help desk ticket on Plugorama requesting a hardware upgrade, at which point they are issued an RMA number to facilitate the return of the unit.
