FXpansion has released GURU v1.5.8 Public Beta (for registered owners).

Changes since v1.5 (includes changes from several beta versions released over the last few weeks):

  • MIDI implementation document now included.
  • CCs 78 and 79 (sample start + end) are now available on channel 12.
  • an Option was added to disable the slice-normalization (and the associated velocity-sensitive score generation).
  • minor improvements to slicing.
  • assorted minor bug fixes.
  • Overall slicing has been improved.
  • In SINGLE slicing mode, when there are more than 16 slices available, GURU now picks the "best" slice for each pad, not just the first matching one it encounters. This makes SINGLE more suitable for building single-layer slice kits to retrigger from other sources.
  • A bug causing high Accuracy settings to give bad results was fixed.
  • A bug where the slice wouldn't refresh when changing Accuracy was fixed.
  • When rearranging slices via the randomizer in shuffle mode, Locks were not honoured. They are now.
  • A bug affecting a few unusual pre-stretched REX files was fixed.
  • Effects did not reset to their defaults when selected via the new CCs. They do now.
  • MMC was broken in v1.5.5 in some situations. Fixed now.
  • The Randomize slider didn't do anything for the Force Layer graph. It now does IF Force Layer is the selected graph (it does nothing otherwise).
  • Pattern retriggering from MIDI did not work properly when switching between patterns in different modes. Fixed now.
  • Can now change the selected effect for Aux 1, 2, 3, Mix FX and Master FX using MIDI CCs 15 through 19 respectively.
  • A small graphical bug with the standalone when enabling MTC sync was fixed.
  • Improved support for MTC and MMC in standalone, MTC sync is now much more reliable.
  • On Intel Macs, GURU 1.5.2 thru 1.5.4 report the wrong ID string to Pro Tools causing old songs not to load properly.
  • A bug in the Mac standalone was fixed where hitting 'Cancel' in the quit dialog would still quit in some situations.
  • A bug in the graph editor where it wouldn't respond to mouse clicks (only drags) was fixed.
  • The transport UNDO button now operates as a single stage undo for any PATTERN or GRAPH edit operation.
  • Commit (G#2) and Undo (A#2) are now available on channels 1-8, 9, 11.
  • Pad Edit parameters for the current on-screen Pad can now be tweaked by CCs 33 to 63 on channel 12. More documentation on this to follow.
  • In Pattern Edit-Graph Select mode (the view where you see a pattern editor with the graph picker to the left), the Randomizer now shuffles existing hits rather than creating new ones or destroying existing ones. In regular Pattern Edit and Graph Edit modes, it functions as before.
  • Two new and initially empty folders will be created in your GuruData folder, "MidiKits" and "MidiSongs". When the "Receive Program Changes" option in the MIDI options page is on, sending Pgm Ch on channels 1..8 will load a kit on the respective engine from the MidiKits folder. Pgm Ch on 10 or 12 will load a song from the MidiSongs folder. They are ordered alphanumerically, therefore to keep things manageable, we suggest naming kits and songs in that folder "000 808 Dry.kit", "001 Acoustic Rock.kit" et cetera. It's up to you to manage these folders yourself using Finder or Explorer -- it's your decision as to what the selection of kits/songs GURU can load from is.
  • AU Multi outs weren't working properly in Live 6 OS X or Logic 7. Fixed.
  • Double click a knob (assign to colour group) didn't work with the ALT+SHIFT modifiers. Does now.
  • An audio glitch bug that affected some PT LE systems was fixed. NB:- please update to the latest CS release of PT 7.3, as there have been fixes on Digi's end too.
  • Randomize control is automatable from MIDI, and responds on channels 1..8.
  • SHIFT+click-dragging on a graph moves all steps in the graph (NB:- graph values will be clipped destructively if they go beyond the top or bottom of the graph's range).
  • The data path can now be set direct from the GUI in the options page.
  • Scenes now respond on channels 9 and 11 as well as 1..8.
  • The Browser is now remote-controllable on MIDI channel 13.
  • There are now MIDI note commands on channel 12 to switch screen mode (sequence, pad edit, mix etc.).
  • REC and PLAY are available as commands on MIDI channel 12.
  • The stand-alone version now allows you to choose which output you'd like to use for multi channel audio devices, and allows you to pick a sample rate.
  • An option was added allowing QWERTY keyboard shortcuts to be entirely disabled.
  • The GURU logo can now optionally be used as a panic button again (stops playback of all voices), and a remote control command on channel 12 was added for this.
  • An option 'Allow record to all engines at once' was added, which allows you to record to all engines simultaneously. When this option is OFF, only the currently selected engine is recorded to.
  • MIDI CCs 78 and 79 now adjust the sample start/end points for the currently selected pad/layer.
  • A context menu has been added to the Scenes, allowing you to cut, copy, paste and clear scenes.
  • A bug with keyboard management in Cubase was fixed (Guru would sometimes 'hog' the keyboard and prevent keyboard events getting to the host).
  • Improved cursor management, fixed some cursor related bugs in Tracktion and Sonar.
  • Guru now warns if you attempt to save your songs in its system folder (this can lead to a failure to save).
  • Multiple outputs now work in Logic 8.
  • A bug whereby the mute and solo keyboard shortcuts would appear not to work has been fixed.
  • Loop slicer now works better with single-bar, high-tempo loops.
  • Fixed a bug with song reload when using very large audio files (>1min).
  • Fixed a bug in how the pitch graph was exported when dragging MIDI to the host.
  • Fixed a bug in the audio export which could cause clicks and pops when exporting hits or tracks.
  • Fixed a bug where the main window could become stuck offscreen/minimized in OS X.
  • Fixed a bug in pattern copy and paste.
  • A bug which could cause flamming/glitching during playback in Pro Tools was fixed.
  • An auditioning bug in the loops browser was fixed.
