VST Module Architecture SDK 1.0 now available

In a further move to open up its main DAW products to the programming community, Steinberg has today announced the launch of a new integration interface. The VST Module Architecture allows third parties to program MIDI effect plug-ins for its Nuendo and Cubase SX/SL/SE sequencers. The VST Module Architecture 1.0 SDK is now available for download as of today 19:00 Central European Time.

Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH today announced the release of a new interface standard, the VST Module Architecture. The first version of the new interface allows the programming of MIDI effects plug-ins for Steinberg's main DAW applications, Cubase and Nuendo.

Cubase and Nuendo already include MIDI effects, including plug-ins such as an Arpeggiator, a MIDI Delay effect and a transposer, and the freeware wrapper on www.steinberg.net adds support for Cakewalk MIDI plug-ins. But the new interface will open up MIDI effects to the wider programming community, with Steinberg aiming for a trend similar to that following the release of the VST SDK, which soon saw a plethora of new VST instruments and virtual effects released. The VST Module Architecture is an object-oriented, cross-platform and compiler-independent interface model, with the source code being supplied in the C++ language.

The VST Module Architecture SDK is now available for download at www.steinberg.net
