reFX has released version 1.6.1 of Vanguard, which is now a Universal Binary / Intel-Mac compatible on Mac OS X.
Changes in v1.6
Sound:
- Oscillator age (age) sets the virtual age of the oscillators. The older they get, the more unstable the frequency. Use sparingly for a more analog feel.
- A small bug in the wavetable-player of the oscillators has been fixed. This bug switched to the wrong wavetables in the upper-octaves, which lead to a slightly uncleaner sound.
- The setup-page has a new option called “output exciter”. This exciter has always been enabled in previous versions, but has now been made optional for a smoother overall sound.
Convenience:
- Use the right mouse-button in empty areas to open the context-menu which has two new features. The first is “Init preset” or “Init bank”. The second is a sub-menu which allows you to set the “lightness” of the background groups.
- The “edit”-button has been removed. The result is that Vanguard is now always in edit-mode. The amount of work required to make re-sizing of the window work with VST 2.4 on OSX and as AU, etc. was simply not worth the result anymore, especially considering the number of hosts which couldn't be coerced into re-sizing the window at all.
General:
- Vanguard is now a VST 2.4 plugin, and is also available as a Universal-Binary (OSX).
Fixes in v1.6.1:
- Works with Logic 5.5.1 PC again. The previous version didn't support the process() function anymore.
- The knobs/dials couldn't be used anymore in the OSX-AU-version.
- The preset-format in projects wasn't compatible between Intel and non-Intel platforms. The new algorithm detects this now automatically and fixes this, even for projects started with 1.6.0.
