Set your Sonic Reality sample destination to the software sampler format(s) of your choice using the new UFO sample format management tool. Co-developed by sound developer Sonic Reality and Chicken Systems (makers of Translator), the UFO is a Mac and Windows application made exclusively for Sonic Reality sound library titles such as Sonic Station and Sonic Capsules. Each title has its own dedicated UFO with built-in sample export scripts that allow you to install the sounds of that title in all of the major software sampler formats to your hard drive.

The UFO is a format translator, sample and patch updater and installer wrapped up in one. It can translate its dedicated SR library source into formats such as Kontakt, Reason NNXT, Battery, HALion, EXS24mk2, SampleCell/Unity and VSampler which can reference either AIFF or Wave sample files. It can also translate into formats such as Sampletank, Giga and SoundFont 2 that store the samples along with patch programs in their own proprietary format. The UFO is also able to support additional samplers with updated features as they are introduced. The UFO was designed so people can buy Sonic Station and the Sonic Capsules line of Sonic Reality sounds without worry of which platform, OS, host or sampler they may want to use it in now or in the future.
The UFO does more than translate to new formats the way Chicken Systems' Translator does. Since the UFO that comes free with each SR Sonic Station or Sonic Capsule is dedicated only to that title, with updates it knows to make any tweaks and fixes if necessary when translating between formats. It also knows to add in special control files that bring you native programming work by SR designed to take advantage of that destination format’s features.
Dave Kerzner, CEO of Sonic Reality says, "This application allows our products not only to be native compatible with nearly every software sampler but it opens new doors to ways in which we do upgrades with added value even after they’ve bought the product. That is one way we are planning on rewarding registered users of our products."
Updates can be made to the UFO giving the user access to additional patches and enhancements as they are developed and offered for download from Sonic Reality’s sound resource, www.esoundz.com. Special options may be selected by the user to install the sounds on various hard drive locations and the patches will automatically find the samples with no searching necessary.
"One of the issues many of the software samplers have is their ability to find the samples that go with the programs if you move them on your hard drive.” says Garth Hjelte, CEO of Chicken Systems. “The UFO helps manage this and gives the user freedom to put the sounds in more locations without requiring them to re-point their programs to the samples. That's just scratching the surface of what it can do."
Shipping and available as a free download for registered Sonic Station and Sonic Capsules users from www.esoundz.com in March, 2003.
