But in my example all 5 steinways would have the same 'ui'. Same with the les Paul's more or less.
The point I was trying to make was whilst to the musician, the little subtle differences of sound and playability may make a big difference, to the end listener it may not make a difference they can hear.
Nothing to do with UI whatsoever.

Polyphonic LFOs on the Arturia Mini, very nice. Not won over by the sound, but it has programmability options which I like.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

I like the equalizer, reminds me of the resonator in Retrologue2.
Regarding the mod matrix:
Sources:
Const should be spelled out Constant
Targets:
What is "Mod Amt"? Env Amt is the filter envelope amount. But Mod Amt?!
Filter Rel should be spelled out Filter Release, like with the other envelope stages.

Mod Amt is obviously modulation amount.

I don't think Modular V could compare as it is just old. It's one of the oldest plugins Arturia has and AFAIK hasn't been updated with rebuilds the way Mini V, CS-80, and some others have been.

No. They won't have exactly the same UI. Steinway pianos are handcrafted.zvenx wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 7:24 pm But in my example all 5 steinways would have the same 'ui'. Same with the les Paul's more or less.

But if listeners can't hear the difference in a blind test, a musician that is perceiving a difference while playing not blind is responding to the playability of the interface.

So if I put Five Steinways in front of you, same model, all new.. and ask you to number them 1-5, in your head and then I switch the order I have them, you could tell which one was which?
'Sure' you can.
Anyway you can interpret however you want what I said, however I was not at all talking about UI.
It was how the player 'connected' with the instrument, part in sound, part in playability, part in vibe, part in the immeasurable (je ne sais quoi)... but after all of that the audience/listener probably wouldn't hear that difference.

What are you talking about? That doesn't make any sense relevant to what I've been saying. But then you're trying to connect a poor analogy of handcrafted instruments to talking about software emulations.
Two different software emulations of the same instrument that sound the same in blind tests, but you connect more strongly with one over the other as a musician when you play them and listen to them non-blind. That's the interface that you are connecting with.

Blind tests are useful for hardware but stupid for any software with a demo version. The only point is to give people something to dunk on others with. "Take to the blind test so you'll know how wrong you are."
The Legend HZ has a demo version now. Do you connect with it? Great. Do you not connect with it? Great.

not an old hardware but worth mentioning, Pentagon I by rgc:audio :Jac459 wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 4:37 pmThen let me reiterate my question:
As LegendHZ sound surprisingly good with adding multiple oscillators modelled on analog imperfection of the past, I would be interested to know if there are other synths, modelling old hardware having also a large (>3) number of oscillators.
Thanks.

The top left, where the mod wheel is hardwired to modulating osc pitch and/or filter cutoff using either osc3, noise, or a blend of the two. Modulating Mod Amt allows you to use a different source to modulate these instead of, or in addition to, the mod wheel, e.g., velocity or aftertouch.
