Lots more people will be moving to Linux now

Thank goodness u-he supports Linux...besides some stock effects, I no longer use any other instruments or effects because u-he has everything covered and its awesome.

Now with the new Windoze 11 AI spy (Copilot) I expect bunches of people will be ending their Windows relationship. And Mac is great but if you want control, Linux is it.

Urs, I hope U-he never trades any of its magic for AI...you guys are an independent stronghold against "the man," which now includes the already homicidal AI version of "the man" and Microsoft has given it "Skynet" like control (notice that the search engines that use MS AI were all down this morning...)

So I'm starting with Ubuntu Studio, and we'll see from there.

Don't buy a copilot+ pc?
I5-8600K, 16 GB, Presonus Audiobox USB 96, Fl Studio, Reason 11, Studio One 5 Artist.

How do you know that creators of a distro you use don't collect your presonal information? Do you take their words on trust?

Do you audit source code of your version of Linux yourself? Do you compile the code yourself? How could you be sure that they don't spy on you?

copilot was added in a recent update so potentially all win11 pcs will have it

Although I haven't made the jump on my studio machine yet, I'm grateful for all the devs that take the time to support Linux. The sales figures can't be as high as macOS or Windows.

IMHO Linux is the only system that seems to be steadily improving. Windows and macOS have passed their peak and feel like they're in steady decline now.

Not here. Doing exactly what I need, and have been for over 25 years. Never felt the urge to go feral because of tech paranoia.

My entire post is literally about me not buying a PC with Copilot 😄
...which is any Windows 11 PC, but also just using their Edge browser captures your data. Go look at the privacy section of your Microsoft account after using Edge.

I doubt they will be able to implement it but it shows the mindset at MicroShaft.
Windoze is way past their peak imo.

Yep, it has been downhill since XP for my needs.

That is a helpful article, thank you for sharing. It is even worse than I thought! It will log your keystrokes, passwords...and there is nothing, I mean nothing, to stop the AI from doing what it wants with it. Including logging into your bank account app (windows now runs Android apps....)

If anyone thinks that isn't possible, it is, and worse:

The problem is that modern software companies are not modern in their thinking. They favor "control" which is great for enticing investors. But "value" is what attracts customers, and that requires giving control to the customer.

... anything like this and other features can be Disabled of course.

Having all your apps for linux is of course also valuable..unfortunately alot of software you need for work, doesnt work as good as on Windows (using wine or native linux).
Linux has major issues with drivers for network adapters and also many audio interfaces, not its own fault, but still a real issue.

Post

I have three old and extremely different computers, different network hardware, and many distros on separate drives, with eiither faaaaassssst comcast at home, or resort ethernet/wi-fi, no issues at all. The wine-based windows items I use work well enough, or I wouldn't bother, and there is a related topic, posts with screenshots etc at:

viewtopic.php?t=503359&start=465

There are few musical capabilities I'm missing, but they are mainly automated cardboard cutout mastering tools that I would do by hand anyway, to obviate my musicianship skillz :scared: :( (and I don't attempt to use a corolla for F150 duties, be it computer or real-world tasks)

The linux native collection is always improving, but a casual glance won't cut it. And I'm not interested in paying a premium for an OS i'll need to mud-wrestle for common data security. Diva before windows 13, 4dahwinnn
Cheers
