Well, I'm a "guitar player" but not nuanced enough to distinguish real dynamics from fake. I just play my chords and record my songs. So, I probably shouldn't worry too much about something I can't even tell apart myself.
But that said, I'm going to look at these options, as well as going back to trying to improve my recorded sound with Tech 21 Blonde and Zoom MS-70 CDR (first trials, I was not very happy).
Also, there seems to be a crazy deal on Peavey Revalver on MF stupid today. I'm not sure if it's boxed or download.

+1 for s-gear. There should be a new amp coming too. It's based on a fender tweed, so that should be another reason for clean tone lovers to check out s-gear.

Yeah, it works great. The hassle is that you have to go through ENDLESS IR's to find what you are looking for usually.rpm wrote:So I guess from ignite amps you're suggesting I place the NadIR after the lepou amp sim, right? Cool, I'll try that, thanks!

It's likely boxed like geist was, so chances are you'll have to pay a bit of shipping.rpm wrote:Well, I'm a "guitar player" but not nuanced enough to distinguish real dynamics from fake. If not, I'll jump on it just to pretend I'm made of money

I tried the Catharsis Studio IRs with NadIR last night (with headphones). I couldn't tell what the IRs contributed to the sound. I really don't want another "endless going through" thing with IRs. I've gone through endless freeware, endless youtube demos, endless forum posts, etc. It never ends and I just want to make music now.

Give NI Guitar Rig a go. It has so much more than amps!

This is definitely worth checking out:

-the high-gain stuff is a bit generic (but then so is the real thing) but the clean/twang tones are full of character. Good price too for a lifelong licence

The reason I like GR is mostly all those effects that you can use on other stuff (vocals, drums, etc.). I know nothing about amps and I'm easily won in that domain. That's why, so far, GR worked out the best for me. And that's even just using GR Free Player. I think I would totally buy it on a 99 USD sale or if I can find a used one.jobromedia wrote:Give NI Guitar Rig a go. It has so much more than amps!

One of most realistic amp sims I have tried (free or commercial) is Mercuriall JCM800 Hot Preamp:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=392032
I love it for blues and heavy rock with different cab impulses. Here is a sample with a semi-clean, blues tone (please, excuse my playing, it is a complete improvisation):
https://soundcloud.com/skala2014/jcm-80 ... st-blues-1
Also added a touch of compression and tamed the lower register a bit with Rangebastard - a terrific treble booster (http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=327656).
You need to set the input and gain correctly and choose the right cab. I prefer darker speaker impulses with this amp sim.

Yeah, after a quick romp around the room, s-gear is the winner. I'f you want to use it with torpedo, that is a decent option. (but it takes SO long to load)
According to some insiders, R4 is going to be something special. Taking a long time with it though. Hope it's for the best.
