Thinking pretty seriously about the chass-bliss ltd chompi, assuming we can work out the shipping. Currently, its cheaper for me to ship one in from the EU, than the west coast.

Are you considering the LE Chase Bliss one? https://chompiclub.com/collections/treasure-islandpekbro wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 9:08 pm Thinking pretty seriously about the chass-bliss ltd chompi, assuming we can work out the shipping. It has an extra out/extra mode, made for sampling the return signal. Seems more useful than the regular.
I’m trying to cut things down to only sampling with Push 3 and processing either in the box, or the rack but I have to admit, it does look fun. Not sure my definition of fun aligns with their asking price, but people seem to like it.

Yea, the treasure island ltd, although the theme has no bearing on things.elxsound wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 9:58 pmAre you considering the LE Chase Bliss one? https://chompiclub.com/collections/treasure-islandpekbro wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 9:08 pm Thinking pretty seriously about the chass-bliss ltd chompi, assuming we can work out the shipping. Well, I seem to remember Reeves Gabrels came up with quite the solution for exciting his strings in Tin Machine.
http://www.bowiedownunder.com/tinmachin ... ydney.htmlWhile recording Tin Machine II in Sydney, Tin Machine guitarist Reeves Gabrels infamously acquired a new accouterment for his sonic arsenal.
After asking his guitar tech for a variable speed drill he could use to manipulate his guitar strings, the pair ended up at a local sex shop.
"My tech guy didn’t have a drill in his tech bench, but he said, ‘Well there’s a sex shop down the street and they’ll have vibrators with motors you can change the speed on’. I didn’t ask him how he knew there was a sex shop at the end of the street, but he and I just walked down there. It was around closing time in the evening and we got in as they were locking the door. I said to them, ‘I won’t be long – I just need two variable speed vibrators!’.
I would have thought that the gentleman running the shop would have seen it all, but I was putting the vibrators up to my ear to listen to the motor speed."
With practice, Gabrels was able to manipulate his vibrator to vibrate his guitar strings like a bow on a cello.
The infamous practice made it to Tin Machine’s live performances, as well as wilful and disconcerting TV appearances such as the BBC’s staid chat show Wogan.
While Tin Machine were ultimately dissolved by the end of 1992, Gabrels sounds wistful as he thinks back to his moment in a New South Wales sex shop 30 years ago:
"I guess, in my mind, Sydney will always be synonymous with my vibrator…"

One of my favorite parts of this thread is learning about all sorts of cool and unusual devices I've never seen anywhere else. This is one such device, and I think it looks awesome!foosnark wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 5:20 pm Landscape Ferrous
A spinning magnetic thing for exciting steel strings, kalimba tines, etc. I've been wanting something in this category that works with bass guitar (unlike the ebow, which only semi-works), so I went ahead and preordered. Curious to try it with steel tongue drums, or just taping an appropriate piece of metal to a frame drum head...

I could do some fun things with this for sure. If I weren't so enamored of the Strega/Minibrute 2S pair I'd be putting this next to my Strega instead -- it seems like a cousin, like it came out of a different direction and produces some different textures but it's part of the same mood.

So many companies are doing full announcements/release/demos of their new stuff online before Superbooth this year, not just teasing it...
Soma Labs Flux, super expressive instrument played with handheld magnets. Some incredible theremin/Ondes Martenot stuff going on there, but a synth engine that also does some brutal distorted resonator stuff, FM tones, supersaw/filter, etc. Not as expensive as I expected it to be, but out of my reach for space reasons.

TBTH, to say I've never really liked/cared for the 'sound' of theremins is a gross understatement, but the interface/interaction has always fascinated me. THIS device is totally next-level intriguing. Not only responds to the polarity of the magnets, but to varying degrees the nuanced curvature of the toroidal field??? ...wow. The sounds had me @15:00, and again @20:+/-ish. And as a MIDI/CV/MPE controller??? OMG. Brilliant stuff.
