Using guitar pedals with low impedance line level signals

I would like to hear some opinions about using guitar pedals for low impedance / line level signals from synths, mixer sends etc.
Are my pedal at risk if I do this?
Is the sound quality likely to be bad?
There are plenty of DI boxes to go the other way but are there any "backwards" (so to speak) DI boxes?

Nothing is at risk, done that numerous times... Just keep the levels down a bit.

I second everything BertKoor said. There's no risk of damage to the pedal.
If the line out is balanced, you may need to take precautions to not ground out one side of the line out, since the pedal fx are unbalanced.

I have a cunning plan ...

I think Radial's X-Amp would work well for this purpose, no? Worth having especially if you have a guitar and want to reamp. It also has a ground option. Sounds great.
