I think this is important to know:
http://www.presonus.com/products/studio ... e-versions

Artist can not (at least if I take note of the comarison chart) use VST plugins/instruments. Though it should be noted, that if you upgrade to either Producer or Professional, you basically only pay the difference to the next higher version.

In this example: you pay 5 USD (barely 4 EUR), while the MSRP is 99EUR. You only pay 99EUR (MSRP) as upgrade to Producer, and 299EUR (MSRP) to Professional (Pro is 399EUR MSRP). Street prices are lower of course.

So you save about 100 quids, and even more if you find a suitable store to upgrade with a discount.

Still... for 5USD, an absolute steal. I might actually waste that money and offer myself a suitable upgrade path. But... I'm still waiting for v3 with a handful more features.

$5 wow! Thanks. :D

No VST support but that's the biggest no-brainer of the year.

Not that I'm complaining on 5 bucks, :) but is there away around the VST limitation?

You could output the audio directly into Studio One from standalone versions or VSTs using Image Line's free MiniHost using AsioLink: http://midithru.net/Home/AsioLink. I have been using this as a workaround of Reason's inability to host VSTs. It works very well, with low latency.

In fact that is a positive thing workflow wise, nothing really to distract from the music making

You get a good bass/mono synth, a good sample-based synth, and a good sampler for drum sequencing or handling of one-shot samples (excellent to stack samples with).

An adequate selection of FX is also included.

So those whose goal is to make tracks on a laptop or computer. If you can't do it with Studio One Artist, you might as well give up and look for other work.
