Hi guys!
Imagine, one day you see many spaceships in the sky: The extraterrestrials
have visited us humans! What will they think about us humans? What are
they going to do? We addressed this in a somewhat bizarre song:
Direct link: http://andy-enroe.bplaced.net/22_songs/ ... emorse.mp3
Website with animation: "without remorse"
Note: This requires clicking the grey "play"-button.
Feel free to tell us what comes to your mind spontaneously, what you think
of the song and maybe what you would do differently.
Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS: You can find a lot more background information about the aliens on the website:
Why did they visit the earth? What do they want here? Etc. ...

Ohh, I'm glad that you like the epic "Without Remorse",
which is at least unusual in the music world!
Thank you Rene for your kind words!

This story is a good intro for our song "without remorse":
Susanna carefully packs the chocolate beetles into her bag. This
time she prevailed against her mother. Already at the last visit to
the supermarket she insisted on getting these chocolate beetles.
"Susanna, if we go out now, please make sure that there is a bike
path"! Five-year-old Susanna almost collided with one of these
bike bullies the last time.
Susanna and her mother Helen leave the supermarket with their
bags full. Something is wrong here: the people outside are looking
up at the sky in surprise. It's a sunny day - just like the weather
forecast predicted, and not a single cloud can be seen in the deep
blue sky. When Helen looks up, she sees what apparently amazes
everyone ... read more here.

Beginning: reminds me of NIN.
Then: cool vocoder (?) - voice. (or isn't it?)
After that it gets a little more conventional again.
Cool that you went back to the more experimental beginning.
Overall a nice and interesting song!

enroe,
Industrial intro like Depeche Mode or NIN. Vocal sound is very good to give the space alien vibe: curious what effects you used on the highly effected intro vocal. Electric Bass (I assume) sound works well for the song. Rhythm Guitars kind of have a hybrid Devo/Black Sabbath sound. Feel free to elaborate on those bass and guitar sounds, how you did those. Overall sound is quite unique and pretty cool. Nice melodies and everything was well performed. No complaints, it just sounds very good! Probably my favorite song from you. . Say hi to the space aliens for me!

Quick Note: using the video - almost gave up as I thought it wasn't working for me, but then I realised there was quite a long wait at the start before the music started.
Interesting listen - shades of Alice Cooper at times...loved the chorus!
Personally, I wanted the heavy effects on the vocals to disappear for a while so that they could then maybe re-enter with more impact, but others will think differently and they didn't spoil the listen at all.

Nine Inch Nails? Thank you for this comparison and this association!
And no, that's not a vocoder, just a pitch-down over an octave, and
then appropriately mixed together with the original vocals. The
pitch down was made with the "NixShiftah".
Thanks for listening, I really appreciate that.

I liked the vocal FX, and the bass had an otherworldly sound which I thought worked very well within the SciFi context here. I read the pdf story too. I think it would work as well as any of the recent Hollywood screenplays.
"Mum, What's for dinner?"
"We are."
Good work

For the pitch shifting of the voice "looking for a true response" I -
actually we - tried all possible pitch shifter plugins. Ultimately, Nick
Johnston's "Shiftah" sounded the best.
As far as guitars and bass are concerned, there really isn't that much
that's special. The secret - if you want to call it that - is simply in the
application of EQ + Comp. For the bass (Rickenbacker) needs a lot
of compression - in several layers. With the heavily distorted guitars
(Ibanez GRG), on the other hand, the EQ-ing is of crucial importance.
But you know that too: You listen to the sound many times - and each
time something is readjusted and heard again, etc. It's tedious,
tortuous work. But you are compensated with a reasonably successful
sound - and the whole thing for a crazy, drastic story.

It may take a while for the song to start when you click the play button.ChameleonMusic wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 8:48 pm Quick Note: using the video - almost gave up as I thought it wasn't working for me, but then I realised there was quite a long wait at the start before the music started.

Personally, I wanted the heavy effects on the vocals to disappear for a while so that they could then maybe re-enter with more impact, but others will think differently and they didn't spoil the listen at all.
But that would be a purely technical problem. The song starts very
urban in Depeche-Mode style - that can also be disturbing. That's the
experimental part.
The first vocals are just pitched down an octave - some don't like that
and neither do you. But - and this is the main argument for me - these
deep vocals fit the theme and the message of "without remorse"
exactly. So I can't do without this vocal intro.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time and listening to the song!

Wow, you even read the story behind it -- haha, I
hope that was entertaining! Of course it's a bit
utopian funny - but it has a serious background.

Yes, the beginning is pretty Depeche-Mode like. Thanks
for this comparison. The vocals are supposed to appear
a little disturbingly suddenly. But I'll check your suggestion
again - too disturbing isn't good either.
Thanks for taking the time to listen to the song!
