“Know Where” was inspired by an article about the sale of a staircase to nowhere in London. The buyer intends to open a startup incubator in the staircase which I imagine would be a strange place to work.

The piece features Tom Kraus on guitars and vocals and Dan Cubert (synth solo).

jcub,
Thank you for reviewing my song! Your song: I finally remembered: it is the Winchester house that has a stairway that leads to nowhere, and has other odd things to "confuse ghosts". If you are intrigued by that, I would imagine a google search would lead to plenty of information on that famous house. Instrumentally, this reminds me a bit of Yes (a compliment). The vocals are quite good, as is everything else in this song. Well done! :). I also listened to the song that plays next: another cool song! You know I like the Chapman Stick!

I only listened to "Know Where":

Very nice song - the vocals are far forward and easy to understand (which most people don't dare to do).
Relaxed arrangement - a bit in the style of Pink Floyd from the 70s. The synth and guitar solos in the
middle of the song break up the comfortable flow a bit. With 7:40 minutes you also dare to make the
song longer. I think this length is good.

Overall: Great song idea, well implemented - I really enjoyed it! :tu:

This is EXCELLENT work!

Yes, vocals up front and crystal clear. The piano fits perfectly, reminiscent to me of a band called Renaissance from long ago (I miss them). Good lyrics as well.

Guitar is good, not intrusive. In fact, ALL the instruments serve the song. Pretty damn rare, nowadays.

The synth solo reminds me of someone, damn, can't remember! Good stuff.

I'd listen to this while writing horror. Perfect for that, but I'm odd, be warned.

Yeah, it's nice. Somehow resembles the good old band IQ.

Thank for the listens and kind words. I always find vocal songs challenging to write and mix and so give Tom credit for the arrangements and recording.

Long ago I was one of the regular reviewers on ProgArchives so I've listened to a lot of music in this genre.

This is a very nicely composed example of modern prog especially in the vocal tonality and melodic tendencies.

On crappy computer speakers the vocals overpowered the mix. So I grabbed some earbuds since I'm at work and the mix made a lot more sense. It felt like some of the support elements might need to come up a little still but probably just a matter of taste.

I personally love the ear candy aspects of music so I dug the synth solo. I wished I could hear the guitars a little more though.

But those are quibbles. Very strong work.

I appreciate the close listen and comments. I will take another listen and make some adjustments. Thanks!
