That poll is pretty meaningless. First off, only 61 people responded, and one was me, just now. Second, there wasn’t a “I’m already working as a professional doing music and/or production” option. Lastly, people don’t even know what they actually want. I wanted to be a professional musician… until I started doing it, and I grew to hate it. That said, when a job doing game music was offered to me, I took it. I bet if you took everyone in that poll and offered them a decent wage to create music, they’d almost all take it.

No, that's just how human beings are. IMHO 99% of their music is so-so or bad
Furthermore, if anyone can make more than a couple of great songs they are among the 0.01% of all people who have ever lived. For each genre there is a learning curve, but for the casual listener, they never know.

Yes - but most of the time their "sophistication" is lost in collecting plugins and DAWs.
