Sony Creative Software

Sony has updated ACID Pro to v5.0b and Sound Forge to v8.0a.

Notable Changes/Fixes in ACID Pro v5.0b:

  • You can now view thumbnails for video and image files in the Media Manager window.
  • You can now view and edit media properties in the Properties pane of the Media Manager window. Right-click a file and choose Show Properties Pane to show or hide the window.
  • A new button has been added to the Search Pane of the Media Manager window. Select the View Items Not Matching Search Criteria button if you want to invert your search terms. For example, if you'd searched on the "Bongo" tag, selecting this button will display all media that does not contain the "Bongo" tag.
  • You can now add media to a media library by dropping files and folders on the Media Manager window.
  • When you set the stretching method in the Track Properties window to Fixed segments, green beat markers represent the points where silence will be inserted to accomplish stretching. Stretch-only markers (normally displayed in orange) are not used in this mode and are now displayed in gray.
  • The Soft Synth Properties and Audio Plug-Ins windows are no longer disabled when busses and tracks are muted. A Muted indicator is displayed in the windows, and the contents of the windows are dimmed.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause playback to jump when changing the loop region.
  • A bug has been fixed that prevented events from being copied or moved when right-dragging them in the timeline.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause playback to hang when using UAD-1 DirectX plug-ins on the master bus.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause ACID software to crash on some machines when scrolling during playback when third-party effects were applied to tracks.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause silence to be burned to disc if you pressed Alt+Tab to switch away from the ACID window while burning a Disc-at-Once CD.
  • A new preference has been added to the General tab. Select the Use compatible method to read disc capacity check box to use a compatible mode to check the capacity of the media when you insert a disc. Selecting the check box can prevent a hang that can occur with some external drives.
  • A bug has been fixed that could prevent you from drawing loops after right-clicking a track header and choosing Use Original Tempo from the shortcut menu.
  • A bug has been fixed that prevented rendering when your project included busses that were routed to two separate sound cards.
  • Effect automation envelopes on bus tracks are no longer bypassed when in ReWire device mode.
  • Support for E-MU audio hardware has been improved.
  • A change has been made to accommodate certain ASIO audio cards that caused problems at sample rates higher than 96 kHz.
  • A bug has been fixed that prevented channel number changes from being saved when saving to an external MIDI file.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause changes to external MIDI device preferences to modify MIDI track routing.
  • Several changes have been made to improve audio and MIDI recording.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause certain MP3 files to be truncated at three seconds when adding them to a project.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause some VST effects to revert to their default settings when playback is started.

Notable fixes/changes in Sound Forge v8.0a:

  • A bug has been fixed that could prevent the Envelope effect from working correctly.
  • A bug has been fixed that could prevent stereo-to-mono conversions from working correctly when using the Channel Converter.
  • A bug has been fixed that could prevent synthesis from working correctly when starting with an empty data window.
  • A bug has been fixed that prevented the play meters from updating correctly when playing AIFF files.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause corrupted playback when previewing AIFF files from the Open dialog.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause the Plug-In Chainer to lose some of its settings when switching between data windows.
  • A bug has been fixed that caused the Repair > Copy Other Channel function to fail if no selection existed in a data window.
  • A bug has been fixed that prevented the Find function from updating the cursor position.
  • A bug has been fixed that caused the Play at Cutlist command to begin playback at the beginning of the file.
  • An issue has been resolved regarding preview of selections through plug-in chains that contain automation.
  • Several improvements have been made regarding VST effect preset handling.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause MP3 file lengths to be reported incorrectly.
  • Various recording issues have been fixed involving input monitoring, DC Offset, and the potential for gapping when you switched away from the Sound Forge window during recording.
  • The Input Monitor check box has been moved from the Preferences dialog to the Record dialog.
  • A Record Buffering slider has been added to the Audio page in the Preferences dialog.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause your audio driver model from ASIO to MS Mapper when opening a file in Sound Forge from a Vegas or ACID window.
  • Various enhancements have been made to make playback smoother and refine Audio Event Locator and scrubbing behavior.
  • The Subject box on the Summary page of the File Properties dialog has been replaced by the Artist box. Subject is still available on the Extended Summary dialog.
  • A bug has been fixed that could cause changes to ACID metadata to be discarded.
  • General fixes have been made to make scripting and the Batch Converter script more robust.
  • ACID metadata - including the ACID track type - is now accessible via scripting.
