SoundFellas Immersive Audio Labs

SoundFellas has updated Echotopia to version 1.1, adding rendering to files and quality-of-life improvements. Furthermore, the Medieval Towns and Villages ambience kit sound library is released for the users of Echotopia Storyteller, Creator, and Producer editions and as a standalone royalty-free library. They say:

Good news for professional sound designers, filmmakers, videographers, and game developers. Also, great news for game masters who want to use the acoustic worlds they made in Echotopia in any VTT platform, play them back from a mobile or sync them in video editors for Twitch or YouTube. Now you can export the exact positional audio experience of the Observer or one of your Library Presets. Create your acoustic world in Echotopia and export any perspective of it in files of any channel format up to 8 (octagon) and use them in your video editing projects, sound libraries, game development, and virtual reality experiences, or import them in your favorite virtual tabletop platform and enjoy them with your game party:

  • Supported channel count: 1 (mono) and up to 8 (8.0 surround).
  • Supported sample rates: 8 kHz - 96 kHz.
  • Supported bit depths: 16-bit PCM - 32-bit FP.

Enhance your map's visibility using different custom colors for the main and fade zones of areas. Color settings are defined and saved per scene and include opacity for intuitive customizability. Each palette includes the last colors you used in the entire project, making it easy to use specific colors for all the scenes of a project.

The full User Manual for Echotopia has been released, containing technical instructions, theory, and best practices for designing and producing immersive soundscapes for live performance and syncing with media (games, film, etc.).

Minor fixes:

  • Changed styling of Observer to be easy to spot.
  • More consistent logic for upmix, especially for exotic channel counts.
  • Fix Inward Occlusion logic mistakes when entering/exiting an Area.

The founder of SoundFellas, Pan Athen, said in the announcement:

Our innovative sound libraries could easily be priced at $100 and some of those even more than $200, but this is not the way we want to go. We don't want innovation and top-quality sounds to be offered only to those who can afford to pay hundredths of dollars per project. Many times hobbyists and enthusiasts, by doing what they love, create magnificent games, films, animations, and more. We want everybody to have top-notch sound content in their projects, no matter what. We believe in what many people call "karma," and we want to make all creators part of the SoundFellas family. So head on to our Online Catalog and explore our rich collection of sound libraries.
