Wholegrain Digital Systems releases free Mono/Stereo Conversion Utility for Pro Tools AAX/HDX

Wholegrain Digital Systems has announced the release of the Mono/Stereo conversion utility, a Pro Tools AAX plugin in the Sound Field category that operates only on stereo tracks. The plugin's function is to convert a Left/Right stereo signal into a Mono/Stereo signal. Mono/Stereo is also known as Sum/Difference. The plugin can also be used to convert a Mono/Stereo signal back to Left/Right.

Wholegrain president Duane Wise explains the utility's background.

We have found that the multi-mono plugin configuration in Pro Tools is a very powerful feature. The Audio Unit version of Quartet DynPEQ supports dual-mono via a separate plugin, which turned out to be a non-trivial modification to the core design. Pro Tools inherently alleviates that issue, but Mono/Stereo processing is not built in. The Mono/Stereo utility plugin allows for such processing not only with the DynPEQ plugin family, but with any multi-mono AAX nonlinear plugin.

This free utility supports Pro Tools AAX from version 10 upwards, Native and HDX DSP, on Mac OS X version 10.6 upwards. The installer contains one package for 32/64-bit AAX hosts, and a separate Gatekeeper-cleared package for 64-bit AAX hosts in Mac OS X version 10.14 upwards.

The utility is included in installers for DynPEQ AAX plugins as of version 1.4. Wholegrain has now offered the utility for free, with no warranty and informal support, on the utility's KVR page.
