Elumia

My rating isn't because of the amazing sound that this app produces. It the usability factor. Upon opening the app, I had to hunt down the Play button. The UI, while nicely done, contains 2 large design elements in the upper left that are shaped like play buttons. The actual play button is located in the lower half of the UI without a label. Every other feature has a label. Secondly, I don't see a way to rewind the play head to the beginning of the sample track. And then there are the different modes. On launch, you are provided with a WAV profile and Grain Modulation features. You can switch between different screens using the button to the right of the actual play button. Switching between layers, Main, Mod 1, Mod 2, and FX-A is easy enough. But to access the provided WAV files, you need to click the small, non-descript down arrow to the left of the apps ELUMIA logo. Additionally, to get to the other heavy hitting features, you have to tag the up and down arrows to the right of the logo. Again un-labeled and very easy to miss. There is actually a piano roll that's not pictured on the site. - So why all the complaining for a free app with tons of potential? It's free as long as you hit the donate button. Otherwise a nag overlay will re-appear every 3 minutes. In the time that it took me to figure out how to reach the features that I had reached, I had to close the nag overlay 4 times. In order for this app to really shine, you will need to teach yourself how to use it. Until it's value is proven usable, there is no reason to donate. You downloaded this app for a reason. If that reason cannot be realized, move on. We can't donate to every synth we try.

Been playing around with this software for the last days and imported lots of my custom files, results sounded great. Not only great for ambiences, all depends on your settings, granular size, speed, spread, ...

Still have to dig in deeper to fully understand all possibilities to achieve more precise results.

Even after this little time spent with Elumia, I believe this software is a steal and offers a wealth of possibilities at this pricepoint and features I did not found in much more expensive granular synths.

Furthermore, I contacted the developer twice, I got a reply wthin less than a day .

In short : great synth, great support.

So, it's obvious I really like this synth :

- two granular engines.

- import of custom audio files.

- MIDI/sequencer and arpeggiator driven.

- modulation matrix with lots of possibilities.

- clear interface with readable font.

- adequate effects section.

- Envelope ADSR and filters ADSR.

- the price ! (donationware).
