Usually, all real-time software synthesizers use a lot of approximations (tables, interpolations). Their digitally implemented bandlimited algorithms can produce only a limited number of certain sounds only. And in the end, it all affects the resulting sound quality.

This application can generate sounds with the highest possible precision and quality but with compromises to performance (it is not real-time). It offers the closest possible quality to analog sound (thanks to oversampling) and flexibility which is limited only by your knowledge of math and imagination.

SoundModeler is the freeware/donationware sound modeling application for Windows using text math syntax with expressions. You can easily convert your text formulas to audio to analyze it and save as .wav file.

The features are:

  • Fast text parsing engine to create audio/.wav from math formulas.
  • Unlimited possibilities to combine math functions to create high fidelity bandlimited analog sounds thanks to oversampling ratio from х16 up to x1024 with customizable FIRs.
  • Math parsing engine with double-precision calculations.
  • Up to 8 filters per sound (low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, Moog type).
  • Up to 4 delay lines to model rich analog-sounding chorus.
  • Possibility to use maths functions and custom functions as oscillators as well as wavetables.
  • Included wavetables for:
    • 4 Access Virus oscillators.
    • 4 oscillators from GalactiX (VSTi) synthesizer by (c) Alex@Smartelectronix.
  • Waveform and spectrum viewers that allow graphically to analyze the resulting sound.
  • Editable custom envelopes.
  • Possibility to export entire sound to WAV file or to HALion multi-sample (.fxp) files for alive performance.
  • Supports micro-tuning temperaments (Equal, Pythagorean, Just, Mean-tone 1/4 comma).
  • Rithmic functions based on the number's binary representation to create patterns.
  • Adjustable user interface.
  • Function's syntax highlighting.
  • Saves formulas to.txt files that can be converted to WAV files.
  • Included library of the text formulas with approximately 100 examples (FXs and synth sounds - drums, leads etc.).
  • Documentation.

So could i use this to create more experimental sounds?

Definitely, that is what it made for !).

You just have to learn a bit of syntaxis from the library of the formulas included. I plan to finalize the documentation in a month or so. But the basics are obvious you write in the text editor: sin(X) or saw(X) then you add them or multiply as you wish. then press->Build and Play.

I also plan to upload a video soon to demonstrate how to create your own sounds, FXs or Halion multi-samples with the use of SoundModeler.

If you have any questions - please let me know.
