I've been eyeing up the MIDI Thing 2 since it was announced! Finally a MIDI interface with a lot of outputs that can be connected with USB from inside the case; I want to have an "invisible" connection to computer.

Would be really keen to hear how good you think the signal/noise and USB noise isolation are: I need this thing because the Beatstep Pro injects too much hum into my system! (I think it's from the LED multiplexer, it changes tone depending on the status of lights...)

Damn!!! I want the MIDI Thing 2 to replace PNW/mmMidi.

That looks great

Not had much time to play with it yet but if it does what I am hoping it does then I can probably use it to directly pass CV from VCV rack into my hardware. The basic MIDI functionality works great and it's nice it can directly output an envelope rather than just a gate or trigger so it can go directly into a VCA.
The other thing that didn't immediately work was trying to get my macbook to pick up the signal from the USB C attachment but it may be fussy about leads so I'll have to grab a bunch to find one that works.

You can’t have your pudding if you don’t eat your meat!! 😉
C/R, dongles & other intrusive copy protection equals less-control & more-hassle for consumers. Company gone-can’t authorize. Limit to # of auths. Instability-ie PACE. Forced internet auths. THE HONEST ARE HASSLED, NOT THE PIRATES.

Thanks, I made the mistake of watching their walkthrough and I'm blown away by how useful this could be!

I love seeing it with the OT. I'd use it primarily with Syntakt, or Push 3. I've avoided getting lost in VCV, but I wouldn't mind adding VCV and then selling off Hector. They added Midi Thing Bridge at the 10-minute mark, and it looks too easy (in a good way).

Yep, I just saw that one this morning. In fact, I paused it to go buy the module from Control, I haven't finished watching the video yet. :hihi:

I figure it's going to replace my Shapeshifter. That is an awesome module, but I've been using it in a narrow range of ways which Algo can cover with more flexibility (with a little help from Ana 2 for ringmod & other "combo mode" stuff).

Love the module and the did a great job with navigating FM with minimal controls. I think I’d like to add a sequencer in before getting something like that, or even MidiThing2 and VCV?

I watched that one yesterday, but kept thinking it’s a lot of hp for similar sounding effects. I think they’re too close to each other be significantly different.

I think you could make a better Error Garden with multiple wired piezo pickups attached to different noisemakers. Lullaby makes it seem like it’d be very easy to make.

true, i already started a noise box thing with springs and bits, but being borderline adhd managed to drill two holes, attach one spring, then started recording it

It’s a shame this can’t handle audio because otherwise it could be the perfect vcv to modular (and potentially back) solution.
