XiiixxiQ is a Non Linear, Poly-metric, Polyrhythmic, Morph-able Step Sequencer driven by the combined output of up to four, summed Euclidean Generators.

XiiixxiQ is designed to be a MidiFX plugin in Logic. It may work in other DAWs but this can't be guaranteed.

A workaround for Ableton Live has been provided by KVR member here:

to get this to work in live 11/sonoma 14.1, copy the vst3 file into the vst3 directory.
run batchmod and check every box except for "Folders only", then run sudo xattr -rd com.apple.qurantine XiiixxiQ.vst3/, then launch ableton.

XiiixxiQ will run in Blue Cat's Patchwork by Blue Cat Audio as both an MFX plugin and in Standalone mode. You may have to engage the { Mono } option in the Loop Legato dropdown to override a timing issue with sending note-off events which would otherwise causes note-ons to be too short lived to trigger a sound.

It offers a collection of sequencing processes based around the central theme of summing Euclidean rhythms. The output of up to four discrete Euclidean generators are summed before feeding into a single step sequencer. This arrangement in itself offers a huge number of evolving rhythms when driving a single sequence but this is only the starting point as further manipulations can occur using one of the options below.

Sequence Morphing.

There are two Sequence-Morph options; a 2-Dimensional A/B option which blends two totally different set-ups together as you move from one to the other, and a 3-Dimensional A/B/C option which can triangulate settings between three independent set-ups.

Subset Sequencing.

The inter-relatedness of the individually generated Euclidean rhythms, through a process of common subset analysis, can be exploited to build a sequence of patterns that move from one set of common subset relationships to another.

Additional Custom Pattern.

There is additionally the option to input a custom rhythm which can then either be fed directly into the step-sequencer, with no additional input from the Euclidean generators, or can be added as a contributory element to the overall summed feed.

Pattern Matching.

The custom rhythm can also be analysed and re-created as closely as possible by the Euclidean generators alone which then allows it to be subject to sequence-morphing and/or subset sequencing.

Full manual included in installation package.

Crashes Logic Pro X macOS 14.1.2.

Great sequencer and Fun to use.

No proper instructions.

Free so no complaints.

Thanks for the review and the info about MacOS 14. Appreciated :-).

There is a manual included in the installation package but it is very much just an explanation of what things do rather than how best to use them.

Hi,

Bizarre as it might sound I don't have access to a Windows machine - as soon as I can sort one out and run a few tests I am hoping to get one out there.

Man this is SO GOOD! I was a big fan of Roundels as well but this just feels like the final, polished product. Very easy to get usable sounds that don't sound sequenced (unless you want them to!). This is the best sequencer I can recall in quite a while. Very well done!!.

Looks amazing, but is this Apple Silicon only? Trying on Intel Mac, Ventura 13.5.2 with Live 11.13.10.

Neither the VST or AU are recognised in Live (even after removing the quarantine file as per the YT video).

Both the AU and VST were rendered for both Apple Silicon and Intel usage. There will be a minor update out in a couple of days so I will try to see if there is a problem with recognition in Live before then.

Thank you. I hope it's useful to you. Please link to anything you create with it as it would be really interesting to hear how other people end up using it :-).

Here is a link to some of the tracks I've made whilst developing this - [ https://soundcloud.com/xiiixxi/sets/the-euclrhythmic-chromaticon ] - the naviarhaiku tracks are all made with a single instance of XiiixxiQ and make use of the 2D Morph function.

I was able to get it to work in Ableton 11, MacOS Ventura 13 without having to run/install batchmod:

  1. I changed the directory to the VST3 folder in terminal, then ran sudo xattr -rd com.apple.qurantine XiiixxiQ.vst3.
  2. Then I took the VST out of the folder, with Ableton open, I hit rescan plugins inside Ableton preferences so that it would see it was gone.
  3. Dragged it back into the VST3 folder, Ableton still open, hit rescan, it will say unidentified dev, cant open, hit ok.
  4. Go into System Settings > Security & Privacy > scroll down and hit open on the vst3, it should be listed there with the same message.
  5. Repeat step 2 & 3.
  6. This time you will get an option to hit open when the dialog comes up inside Ableton, and voila, its in your list of plugins in Ableton now.

Thanks! Removing from the VST folder, scanning in Ableton, then moving the VST back and scanning again made it finally appear in Live.

Had it working just fine in Bitwig with no issues.

I have tried using it in Cubase 12, and it works after doing the above quarantine procedure. (using vst3 version)
Inserted as efx on an instrument track and used the MIDI output of plugins MIDI input on another instrument track.
I will now try to figure out how the sequencer is working :-)
Thanks.

Amazing sequencer but both this & Roundels randomly crash Ableton after a few minutes of noodling :(Ableton 11, Mac 12.7.2.

I couldn't manage to get this to work in Logic latest version, Silicon Mac. It'd be nice if there was an update.
