NAMM 2012Muse Research and Infinite Response unveil New Tight Integration of RECEPTOR 2+ and VAX-77

Muse Research

Muse Research and Development of Menlo Park, California and Infinite Response of Austin, Texas have announced that their respective products, the RECEPTOR 2+ series of hardware-plug-in players, and the VAX-77 controller keyboards, now contain special software that enhances the user experience by allowing the two devices to work together in a tightly integrated manner. Specifically, a keyboardist can connect his VAX-77 keyboard to a RECEPTOR 2+ model and have all of the patch and plug-in names from the RECEPTOR appear on the user-interface of the VAX-77, allowing them to navigate to the plug-in and patch on each Receptor channel using the touch screen, arrow keys, or selector wheel. In order to take advantage of this function, the user must have the latest version of firmware (version 3.1) installed in their VAX-77 (a free download) as well as V1.9 software installed in their RECEPTOR 2+ (also a free download).

RECEPTOR: the pro's choice for sounds; VAX-77: the pro's choice for control
RECEPTOR 2+ is the industry standard for running virtual instruments and effects live on stage, in the orchestra pit, or in the studio. Its low latency combined with superior sonic performance and rugged road-proven design makes it the choice of nearly every major touring band around the world for hosting their VST plugins. VAX-77 has come on the scene like gang-busters and is now the favorite keyboard of some of the best players in the world. It introduces a variety of player-friendly features combined with a rugged and portable design that make it an ideal companion for playing the sounds hosted in your RECEPTOR. The VAX-77 features a magnesium enclosure that combines superior strength with minimal weight, hand-honed texturing on the lightning-fast keybed, breakthrough hall-effect sensor velocity detection with poly aftertouch for unrivalled expressivity, and an extremely convenient folding design that lets you bring your axe everywhere you go. Combine the two and you have an IDEAL combination of expressivity and playability that exists nowhere else, and now with the tight integration between RECEPTOR and VAX-77, controlling all that power is now easier than ever.

Powerful MIDI control in both the VAX and RECEPTOR
RECEPTOR is a MIDI device, and VAX is a MIDI controller. Combine the two and you have unrivalled control over how your sounds are played. And since you can set up splits and layers using the QuickSets function in the VAX, or using the powerful MIDI Filter mode in RECEPTOR, you are able to work the way YOU want, placing and playing the sounds the way that benefits you. And when you engage the SNAPSHOT bank function in the RECEPTOR moving from sound to sound is virtually instantaneous, letting you jump from one song in a set to another without having to wait for samples to load.

Random Access Touch Screen Control for Patch Selection - Play with Confidence
By connecting the RECEPTOR 2+ to your VAX-77 using a single USB cable. Press one button on the VAX-77 and Receptor's current configuration is instantly displayed on the VAX-77 screen. Every plug-in on every channel is shown with the currently selected patch. You can activate the plug-in on any channel from the touch screen, or with the arrow keys, or with the selector wheel.

When you are ready to change the configuration of Receptor for the next song or the next set, simply press the left wheel on the VAX-77 and all your Receptor MULTIS are at your fingertips. Turn the left wheel to scroll to the next MULTI bank, then turn the right wheel to select the specific MULTI. The newly selected MULTI is now shown on the VAX-77 screen. Additionally, you are able to browse and select plug-ins and patches for the next song or set by name using the touch screen interface on the VAX. This solves the problem of having to individually name patches in your controller to match what has been programmed into the RECEPTOR, as well as allowing you to have the confidence that selecting the patch by name brings. You know when you select "Solo Lead Intro" you will hear that exact sound, so you can play your solo with confidence. Compare that with the experience of playing "Patch 37" and hoping it is actually the Solo Lead Intro you are about to play, and not the Monkey Organ Grinder sample from some other song...

“We're very pleased to work with the fine people at Infinite Response to offer this new tight integration between RECEPTOR and the VAX-77." comments Bryan Lanser, VP of Product Development at Muse Research. “We know from personal experience that the VAX-77 is a really fine controller for use with RECEPTOR, and now with the new integration between the two the player is able to explore the possibilities of both units with ease" he adds.

"Early in the development of the VAX-77 we recognized the importance of Receptor in the inevitable evolution from hardware to soft synths" said Glenn Chandler, President of Infinite Response. "The first generation VAX-77 had custom features for Receptor and we have enhanced that support with each new release. Version 3 firmware takes this fusion to an entirely new level and lays the foundation for future development with Muse Research."
