Orchestral Tools have announced the release of Konduit, the latest addition to their FABRIK series of instrument collections.
Developed in collaboration with Belgian techno producer and live performer Peter Van Hoesen, Konduit aims to capture the essence and texture of electricity through a library of dual-layer sound design patches. The patches are suited for various musical moods and applications, including film, TV, video game scoring, and general music production.
True to its name, Konduit draws inspiration from the dynamic relationship between electricity and music, placing the sounds and sensations of electric and electronic instrumentation at the fingertips of composers. The collection, featuring sounds ranging from serene and contemplative to distorted and aggressive, reflects Van Hoesen's expertise in analog and digital synthesis.
The library comprises 40 dual-layer sound design patches categorized as Surge (aggressive and distorted), Charge (dark and foreboding), and Spark (crackling with glitchy harmonics and random energy). The first layer in each patch involves a synthesizer layer manipulated with analog hardware processors by Van Hoesen. The second layer incorporates electric guitar sounds refined through a modular effects rack. Control over the layers is provided via the mod wheel.
Music has been forever changed by the influence of electricity – from how it redefined the sounds of classic acoustic instruments to how it enabled us to create brand new sounds that had never been heard before. The magic of Konduit is exploring the concept literally and allowing us to add sounds to music composition that evoke the personality and feeling of electricity so overtly. It was an honor to collaborate with Peter Van Hoesen on this project, and we're thrilled to hear how these sounds inspire composers around the world.
